چکیده

A nonparametric method and a Bayesian hierarchical modelling method are proposed in this paper for the detection of environmental thresholds. The nonparametric method is based on the reduction of deviance, while the Bayesian method is based on the change in the response variable distribution parameters. Both methods are tested using macroinvertebrate composition data from a mesocosm experiment conducted in the Everglades wetlands, where phosphorus is the limiting nutrient. Both methods resulted a TP concentration threshold slightly above 11 μg/L, using the percent of phosphorus tolerant species and a dissimilarity index as the response variables. Key Terms: Bray-Curtis dissimilarity, changepoint, deviance, Everglades, Gibbs sampling, macroinvertebrate, nonparametric, wetlands

Experimental and environmental factors affect spurious detection of ecological thresholds.

Threshold detection methods are increasingly popular for assessing nonlinear responses to environmental change, but their statistical performance remains poorly understood. We simulated linear change in stream benthic macroinvertebrate communities and evaluated the performance of commonly used threshold detection methods based on model fitting (piecewise quantile regression [PQR]), data partiti...

Compressed Domain Scene Change Detection Based on Transform Units Distribution in High Efficiency Video Coding Standard

Scene change detection plays an important role in a number of video applications, including video indexing, searching, browsing, semantic features extraction, and, in general, pre-processing and post-processing operations. Several scene change detection methods have been proposed in different coding standards. Most of them use fixed thresholds for the similarity metrics to determine if there wa...

Vibrotactile Identification of Signal-Processed Sounds from Environmental Events Presented by a Portable Vibrator: A Laboratory Study

Objectives: To evaluate different signal-processing algorithms for tactile identification of environmental sounds in a monitoring aid for the deafblind. Two men and three women, sensorineurally deaf or profoundly hearing impaired with experience of vibratory experiments, age 22-36 years. Methods: A closed set of 45 representative environmental sounds were processed using two transposing (TRH...

Moving Objects Tracking Using Statistical Models

Object detection plays an important role in successfulness of a wide range of applications that involve images as input data. In this paper we have presented a new approach for background modeling by nonconsecutive frames differencing. Direction and velocity of moving objects have been extracted in order to get an appropriate sequence of frames to perform frame subtraction. Stationary parts of ...

مقایسه روش های مختلف آشکارسازی تغییرات کاربری اراضی در منطقه بیابانی دهلران استان ایلام

Timely and accurate change detection of earth surface features is extremely important for understanding relationships and interaction between human and natural phenomena in order to promote better decision making. Remote sensing data are primary sources extensively used for change detection in recent decades. In this study, images of Landsat (TM) 1985 and Landsat (ETM+) 2007 were analyzed using...
